Instagram Faces $402 Million Irish Fine in Children’s Data Probe

Meta Platforms Inc.’s Instagram faces a 405 million-euro ($402.1 million) fine from Ireland’s privacy watchdog for improperly handling children’s personal data.

The Irish Data Protection Commission said in a statement on Monday that it adopted a decision to levy the fine late last week and that full details of the decision will published next week. The regulator had opened two investigations into whether Meta could legally justify the processing of children’s data and whether it transparently laid out its data processing practices to children.
