Inova Health Patient Advances Suit Over Info Sharing With Meta

Virginia-based Inova Health Care Services must face one claim of a proposed class action alleging it illegally shared patients’ personal information with Meta Platforms Inc. and Google LLC without their consent in violation of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.

Lead plaintiff Pedro Lugo adequately pleaded that Inova was liable under the ECPA despite being a party to the communications because it intercepted them in violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Virginia Health Records Privacy Act, Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia said Tuesday.
