In September, Irish DPA Enforcement Included Vodafone, Eircom ISP Fines

LONDON—Ireland’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) has asked cellphone operator Vodafone to pay a total of €40,000 ($51,432) to a number of registered charities as part of an agreement to settle several privacy violations involving unsolicited marketing messages, a spokeswoman for the ODPC told BNA Sept. 24.

The move is the second enforcement action taken by the ODPC in September after the Dublin District Court ordered telecommunications firm Eircom to pay a total of €30,000 ($38,574) to a charity for failing to encrypt two laptops and for not notifying the data protection authority of the data breach ( ...
