Illuminate Education Defeats Appeal Over Breach of Student Data

Illuminate Education Inc. on Monday beat a bid from parents of schoolchildren to revive a proposed class action over a data breach of the company’s educational software solutions.

While the info breached varied across the over three million affected children, it potentially included grades, socio-economic status, and special education details, but not Social Security numbers or financial information, and none of the breached information has yet been released. The plaintiffs “have not demonstrated that they have suffered intangible harms sufficient to support standing,” the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said, affirming a lower court decision.
