Illinois is pushing back on Facebook Inc.'s attempt to throw out a state consumer protection lawsuit stemming from the Cambridge Analytica scandal, based on arguments such as insufficient evidence of alleged deceptive practices.
Facebook had challenged the state’s claims that it violated the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Trade Practices Act (ICFA) when the now-defunct research firm, which had ties to President Donald Trump, disclosed information on some 50 million users. Facebook, in its motion to dismiss, said that it’s not under the state’s jurisdiction, and that the state can’t prove deception by failing to protect consumer data.
