Identity Theft, Refund Fraud Remain High Priorities for IRS, Justice Department

Stopping identity theft and tax refund fraud will continue to be a top priority for the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation division, along with a host of other initiatives high on the list, an IRS official said.

Speaking at the May meeting of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, Rebecca Sparkman, director of operations, policy and support for the CI division, said May 10 that the IRS is cracking down on ID theft on both the criminal and civil side, in partnership with the Department of Justice.
