The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers failed to protect sensitive files, allowing hackers to infiltrate its network and steal the names and social security numbers of current and former members, according to a proposed class action.
Although the sustained compromise occurred between March 31 and April 5, the IBEW was “unable to detect its data breach until July 3,” the complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri said. The union, which represents more than 7,400 current and retired members, then failed to disclose the attack until August 5, according to the complaint.
