House Republicans Schedule Hearing on Federal Privacy Bill

Republican lawmakers are scheduling a hearing next week on a federal privacy bill that would provide nationwide consumer protections around personal data for the first time.

A House Energy and Commerce Committee panel will hold a hearing on June 3 on the SECURE Data Act, according to a committee spokesman.

The bill (H.R. 8413), introduced by Rep. John Joyce (R-Pa.) and other House Republicans last month, would allow consumers to access, correct, and delete their personal data online and would largely override existing state privacy laws.
