House Republicans Renew Bid for Consumer Privacy Protections (1)

Republicans in the House kicked off the latest round of legislative efforts toward broad consumer privacy protections aimed at reining in tech companies’ use of personal data, picking back up after bipartisan negotiations for a previous bill stalled last year.

“This is a new Congress, with new considerations, so we must continue to improve on the legislation from last Congress and build consensus amongst stakeholders,” House Energy and Commerce Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) said during a hearing Wednesday held by a data-focused subcommittee.
