Lawmakers Approve Cybersecurity Advisors for Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security would get a cybersecurity advisory board of local government and business representatives under a bill approved unanimously by the House Homeland Security Committee.

The committee Sept. 25 advanced the Cybersecurity Advisory Committee Authorization Act (H.R. 1975), introduced by Rep. John Katko (R-NY). It now goes to the full House for consideration.

The legislation would create a more formal path for the private sector to engage directly with Homeland Security officials who work on cybersecurity matters. State and local governments already work closely with the DHS to limit national security threats online, and some...
