House Lawmakers Ask for Digital ID Plan from Treasury

Two senior House Financial Services members are asking the Treasury Department to establish a digital identity task force by March.

The panel would focus on identifying where current identity solutions fall short in preventing identity theft or fraud in financial services, and to recommend policies for Treasury to address them, according to a letter from Reps. Bill Foster (D-Ill.) and Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.).

Treasury action could “help to advance the state of digital identity in financial services, as well as help to address threats to both consumers and the financial services sector caused by inadequate identity solutions,” they wrote.
