Home Depot Escapes Proposed Class Action Over Unwanted Texts

Home Depot Inc. escaped claims that it violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by sending unwanted text messages, when a federal judge in Georgia ruled that its subsidiary Red Beacon Inc., which wasn’t a named defendant in the proposed class action, sent the texts.

Melissa Carson claimed that Home Depot “bombarded” her with marketing texts for ProReferral.com, a free online platform that connects people working on home improvement projects with professionals in their area. The website is owned and operated by Red Beacon.
