Hilton Illegally Failed to Consult Union on Housekeeper Workload

A Hilton hotel in Alaska violated federal labor law by failing to bargain with a housekeepers’ union over expansive renovations that ultimately made it harder for them to meet their room-cleaning quotas, a federal appeals court ruled.

The Hilton Anchorage should have consulted with Unite Here Local 878 before unilaterally increasing its housekeepers’ duties and imposing more burdensome cleaning requirements in the renovated rooms in the absence of a collective bargaining agreement, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit held Tuesday.
