Health-related apps and fitness trackers would face enforcement actions and fines if they fail to alert consumers when their data is disclosed without their permission under a proposal from the Federal Trade Commission.
The proposal, issued after a commission vote Thursday, also seeks to protect information that can reveal insights about a person’s health, such as knowing that they use an online mental health platform.
