Groups Seeking Virus Data Sue Government Over Surveillance Fear

Racial and immigrant justice groups are suing to force the U.S. government to turn over records on data that’s been collected and shared during the Covid-19 pandemic, raising concerns that it may be used for surveillance.

Just Futures Law, the Immigrant Defense Project, and two other groups claim there’s not enough transparency on where the data is sourced from and whether it includes information such as location records from contact-tracing apps on mobile phones that are meant to track the virus’s spread.
