GoFundMe Hit With Suit Over Misleading Cookie Consent Banners

Two California residents sued GoFundMe Inc. for allegedly continuing to track their online activity through third-party cookies even after they clicked “Reject all” on the website’s cookie consent banner.

Sal Munoz and Shirley VanAsch allege GoFundMe’s website displayed a pop-up banner telling users they could reject cookies used for “functional, analytics, and advertising purposes,” but the site continued transmitting user data to companies like Google LLC even when visitors opted out. They filed the class action Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
