Gift Company Set to Pay $4.5 Million Over Workers’ Fingerprints

PersonalizationMall.com is on track to pay $4.5 million in a settlement with a class of over 20,000 employees who allege the gifts company violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act, according to a grant of preliminary approval by a federal judge.

The class action alleges that the gift company didn’t obtain employee consent when it required them to scan their fingerprints to track the time they worked. Not only did the company collect and use employees’ biometric data, but it also failed to make disclosures about the collection, class representatives LaTonia Williams, Dequrvia Williams, and Derrick Barnes claim.
