Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) recently published a draft Test Concept for end-use broadband routers that aims to make the security of the devices “constant and measurable,” with an eye toward an expected legislative change next year allowing customers to purchase their own routers.
BSI developed their test concept primarily to serve as a set of voluntary criteria for Internet service providers and broadband router manufacturers to improve the security of their devices, BSI said in an Oct. 21 statement.
Data security analysts welcomed the measure.
