Gemini Motor’s $40,000 Biometric-Privacy Deal Gets Initial Nod

Illinois-based Gemini Motor Transport LP would pay $40,000 to settle allegations it collected the face scans of truckers without their consent in violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, under a deal given initial approval in federal court.

Members of the proposed class of 196 truckers would be entitled to a pro rata payment from the net settlement fund, with Illinois members entitled to 2.5 shares, and non-Illinois members to 1 share, according to the plaintiffs’ motion for preliminary approval filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
