The Rutter’s Inc. gas station chain must face consolidated class claims over an alleged breach that led to payment card data theft, a Pennsylvania federal judge ruled.
Judge John E. Jones III consolidated the cases Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania to help minimize court costs and streamline litigation. Customers filed at least two class lawsuits after the breach in 2018 and 2019.
Judges consolidate claims when underlying facts of cases are similar. The action allows for a single set of attorneys to conduct settlement talks or to ask for documents during discovery.
