Gamer Advances NBA 2K Biometric Privacy Claims Against Amazon

Amazon.com Inc. and its cloud-computing unit Amazon Web Services Inc. must face a proposed class action alleging they collected and disclosed the facial geometry of players of NBA 2K, a basketball video game, in violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.

Ann Mayhall alleged that AWS failed to obtain her minor child’s informed consent before collecting his biometric information, didn’t make available a written policy concerning the retention and destruction of biometric information, illegally profited from his biometric information, and disclosed the information to a third party.
