Although eBay Korea Co. Ltd. recently dodged liability over its massive 2008 data breach in a South Korea Supreme Court ruling, the impact of the decision on pending and future data breach consumer class litigation will be limited, a Korean privacy attorney told Bloomberg BNA Feb. 27.
“This ruling is limited to what happened in 2008, and the data security environment has changed a lot since then,” Kim Kyung-hwan, an attorney at the Seoul-based law firm Minwho, said.
“We see the current trend strengthening toward holding companies accountable,” he said.
