FTC Will Weigh Product Design In Kids Safety, Commissioner Says

The Federal Trade Commission will be taking a hard look at platform design when assessing risks to kids privacy, Commissioner Mark Meador said Monday.

“I don’t want to make it sound like we’re digging into every platform’s design. We look at where there’s harm in the marketplace, and do we have the legal means to address it, and how do we best address it?” the Republican commissioner said at a Washington event hosted by the International Association of Privacy Professionals. “In that analysis it’s inevitably going to include, ‘How is this platform designed?’”
