FTC Offers Connected-Device Tips to Product Safety Agency (1)

Daily use products that connect to the internet can pose data security risks for consumers, the Federal Trade Commission said, responding to an agency’s request for high-tech guidance.

The FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection June 15 suggested ways to lessen potential harm from Internet of Things (IoT) devices, or products that can exchange data online, such as cars, light bulbs and medical wearable devices. The agency put out the information in response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request for comments on potential safety hazards related to IoT products.
