FTC Finalizes Deal Blocking Sensitive Location Data Tracking (1)

The Federal Trade Commission finalized an order barring data aggregator InMarket Media LLC from selling or licensing sensitive location information.

The order prohibits the company from licensing or selling products trained on sensitive information to clients. InMarket must also destroy all sensitive location information it previously collected, unless it obtains consumer consent.

In a January complaint the FTC alleged that InMarket unlawfully collected consumer’s location data for advertising and marketing from a variety of sources including from third-parties and its own apps.

InMarket said it “shares the FTC’s commitment to advancing consumer privacy.”
