FTC Finalizes Data Security Deal With Mobile Phone Maker BLU

Mobile device seller Blue Products Inc. and the Federal Trade Commission finalized a settlement over agency claims that BLU transmitted customers’ personal information without their consent, including full contents of text messages, the FTC said Sept. 10.

The settlement ends FTC charges that BLU and its president, Samuel Ohev-Zion, misled consumers when it said it limited third-party data collection. The FTC also said BLU falsely claimed it had appropriate data security procedures when it didn’t oversee its data.
