FTC Consumer Protection Chief Tees Up Financial Privacy Cases

The Federal Trade Commission is expected to bring federal financial privacy law enforcement actions “soon,” said Chris Mufarrige, director of the agency’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, at an event Thursday.

He declined to comment on any specifics of pending complaints under the Fair Credit Reporting Act at an event hosted by George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School. The law, also enforced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, protects the accuracy and privacy of information collected by consumer credit reporting companies, medical information companies, and tenant screening services.
