FTC Commissioner Slaughter Designated Acting Chair of Agency

Democrat Rebecca Kelly Slaughter was designated by President Joe Biden, the FTC says in a statement.

• Slaughter will take over the agency from Joe Simons, who is resigning effective Jan. 29
• NOTE: Slaughter is one of two Democrats on the five-member commission
  • Fellow Democrat Rohit Chopra has been nominated by Biden to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
• Slaughter takes over the FTC as it presses ahead with an antitrust lawsuit against Facebook that seeks to break up the company
