The Federal Trade Commission issued a proposed order Thursday that would prohibit data aggregator InMarket from selling or licensing sensitive location information or products it trained on such information.
The FTC accused the company of failing to obtain informed consent from users of its own apps and to ensure third-party apps using its software collected informed consent. It also failed to tell third parties that location data collected would be used in consumer profiles, the FTC wrote. The commission voted unanimously to accept the consent agreement and issue the proposed order, according to an FTC press release.
