Commonwealth Edison’s former chief executive officer, found guilty on bribery charges in May, is asking a federal court in Illinois to either toss the verdicts or grant her a new trial.
Anne Pramaggiore says the government failed to offer enough evidence to prove that she participated in the alleged conspiracy to bribe former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan—or the existence of any bribes.
Pramaggiore argues that she was convicted of entirely lawful conduct, namely accepting job recommendations from a public official without any expectation that the public official would do anything in return.
