Finland’s Parliament Bans TikTok App on Security Grounds

Finland’s parliament is banning short-form video platform TikTok from all of its devices as a safeguard.

The app must be removed from parliament-issued devices by the end of February, according to a statement from the legislature in Helsinki on Monday. Installing the social-media app will then be blocked from March 1. Finland’s parliament didn’t detail the considerations that led to its decision.

Security concerns over how the app collects and uses personal information have revolved around TikTok Inc., which is owned by China’s ByteDance Ltd., and the platform’s content and addictive nature have also been raised as problematic. ...
