Feinstein Says Privacy Bill Shouldn’t Dilute California Law (1)

Congress shouldn’t weaken California’s new privacy law in any federal bill, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said at a March 12 hearing.

Feinstein (D-Calif.) joined other members of the state’s congressional delegation, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who have said they would oppose a federal privacy bill that pre-empts the California Consumer Privacy Act. The Californians’ stance increases the odds that lawmakers won’t end up sending a broad data privacy bill to President Donald Trump’s desk this year.

“I will not support any federal privacy bill that weakens the California standard,” Feinstein said at the start of the hearing.
