FCC Rural Broadband Auctions Get Hale-Maddox as Chief of Staff

June 22, 2020, 6:38 PM UTC

Audra Hale-Maddox will take over as the Federal Communications Commission’s chief of staff for the Rural Broadband Auctions Task Force after Nathan Eagan moved to a different post at the agency.

Hale-Maddox previously worked in the auctions division of the Office of Economics and Analytics, the commission said in a statement Monday.

Eagan, who held the chief of staff post since 2018, has joined FCC’s Office of the General Counsel.

The task force oversees FCC efforts to distribute billions of dollars in federal funds to expand rural broadband. The agency plans to award about $16 billion in subsidies to telecom providers starting in October. The subsidies are paid for by charges on consumers’ landline and cellphone bills.

Hale-Maddox also previously worked in the commission’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau.

“Audra’s experience designing universal service auction programs will be a tremendous asset,” said Michael Janson, the task force director.
