FCC Reprimands T-Mobile for 2015 Data Breach

T-Mobile US Inc. got a slap on the wrist --but no fine -- from the Federal Communications Commission for its failure to protect its customers from a data breach and identity theft in 2015, in a commission order issued Jan. 18.

In a rare “admonishment order” that does not carry any penalty, the agency said T-Mobile failed to protect more than 15 million consumers by securing its supply chain when it relied on a third-party contractor, Experian Information Solutions, Inc. to protect sensitive data collected for credit checks.
