Facial Recognition Tool Use Should Be Paused, Groups Tell Biden

Civil rights groups are urging President Joe Biden to use executive powers to place a federal moratorium on government use of facial recognition technology.

The American Civil Liberties Union and more than 40 other organizations also called on Biden in a letter made public Wednesday to prevent state and local governments from using federal funds on facial recognition.

The push comes as the technology has faced a nationwide backlash over issues with accuracy and bias. Studies have shown that facial recognition tends to misidentify people of color and women.
