Facebook Won’t Get Supreme Court Review of Contempt Finding

Facebook Inc. lost a bid for a U.S. Supreme Court review of a 2019 contempt order against the company for failing to turn over user communications subpoenaed by criminal defendants.

The high court declined to review California state court decisions finding that Facebook and other tech companies can hand over the information without violating the 1986 Stored Communications Act.

The decision cements a split among courts over whether alleged criminals can use subpoenas to get social media communications directly from platforms.

A Facebook spokesman declined to comment.
