Talks between Facebook Inc. and a group of state attorneys general probing the company’s data privacy practices have stalled, according to three sources close to the matter.
Attorneys general from multiple states, including Illinois, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, are investigating Facebook’s data practices, including allegations that it shared or sold data to third parties without user consent. The states launched the investigation after the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
It’s unclear why the settlement talks have stalled. The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the matter, declined to comment on why the two sides disagree.
