Facebook Loses Appeal to Stall EU Data Transfer Battle

Facebook Inc. lost its bid to have Irish courts rehear a challenge to its EU-to-U.S. cross-border data transfer methods, setting the stage for a battle before the European Union’s top court.

The Irish Supreme Court unanimously ruled May 31 that Facebook can’t get a rehearing on the High Court of Ireland’s referral of multiple questions to the Court of Justice for the European Union (CJEU) on how multinationals transfer EU citizens’ data to the U.S.
