Facebook Hit With Lawsuit Over Collection of Tax-Return Data (1)

Facebook collects financial information from tax-preparation websites without user consent in violation of federal and state laws, a proposed new federal class action said.

Crystal Craig, Tiffany Bryant, and Sait Kurmangaliyev alleged that Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms Inc., allowed its pixel tracking tool to be used on the websites of financial services providers and tax-preparation services, including H&R Block, TaxAct, and Tax Slayer.

Pixel enabled the transmission to Facebook of users’ sensitive financial and tax-return information, including names, email addresses, adjusted gross incomes, tax-filing statuses, refund amounts, dependents’ college scholarship amounts, dependents’ names, and other information, ...
