Experian Data Hit With Consumer-Privacy Suit Over Web Tracking

Experian Data Corp. and its Tapad Inc. subsidiary secretly collected and sold vast amounts of consumer data without informing consumers or obtaining their consent, in violation of federal and state privacy laws, a proposed federal class action said.

Maria Lopez and four other lead plaintiffs alleged that Experian and Tapad conducted “deliberate surveillance” of the activity of millions of Americans on the Internet and in mobile applications, allowing the companies to build comprehensive profiles of consumers including information on their purchase and browsing preferences, political and religious beliefs, physical location, email addresses, and more.
