EU Court Backs US Data Pact, Avoiding Fresh Privacy Fight

The European Union’s General Court backed the bloc’s data transfer agreement with the US, rejecting a legal challenge that argued American surveillance laws still fall short of EU privacy standards.

Wednesday’s ruling by the Luxembourg-based tribunal is the latest round in a decade-long legal battle over how companies move personal data across the Atlantic. Two previous EU–US data frameworks — Safe Harbor and Privacy Shield — were thrown out for failing to protect citizens’ personal information.
