A California man sued Edward D. Jones & Co. LP for allegedly sharing his personal financial information with LinkedIn Corp. without consent, claiming the financial-services firm violated federal privacy laws by intercepting sensitive data through online tracking technology.

Vishal Shah filed the proposed class action Tuesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California. The complaint alleges Edward Jones used LinkedIn’s tracking software on its website to capture users’ responses to financial-advisor matching quizzes, allowing it to collect information concerning their income levels, investment amounts, retirement plans, and protected characteristics like LGBTQ+ status.
