An educational services company has agreed to pay $30 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it tricked consumers into giving out their contact information, and made more than 1 million calls to people on the Do Not Call registry.
The proposed settlement with Career Education Corp. is the latest in the FTC’s ongoing effort to crack down on illegal robocalls. The agency has brought more than 100 enforcement actions and works with law enforcement agencies around the country to fight the rising tide of scam calls.
