DOJ Opposes Microsoft Bid to Notify Client on Cloud Data Warrant

Letting Microsoft Corp. notify one of its customers about a government search warrant seeking email data from cloud servers would “frustrate” an ongoing criminal investigation, the Justice Department told the Second Circuit.

The government is urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit to uphold a non-disclosure order accompanying the warrant in a case that raises questions about what legal protections apply to information stored in the cloud servers.
