Kids, Teens Data Safeguards Bill Heads to California Senate (1)

California’s legislature moved forward on a bill that would direct online platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to step up their protections for children and teens.

The California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act passed the state’s Assembly on a 72-0 vote Thursday, teeing up consideration in the Senate next. It remains to be seen whether lawmakers in that chamber will support the legislation as robustly or if they will revise its provisions, especially when it comes to enforcement of the code.
