Data Brokers Will Pay California Privacy Agency Nearly $70,000

A pair of data brokers will together pay nearly $70,000 for failing to register with the California Privacy Protection Agency under the first penalties the agency is levying and which it announced Thursday.

The agency’s enforcement division settled with Growbots Inc., a San Francisco-based sales platform, for $35,400 and UpLead LLC, a Covina-based provider of business-to-business company data, for $34,400. Both companies also agreed to pay attorneys’ fees and costs.
