FTC Cautions Data Brokers Against Sharing With China, Russia

The Federal Trade Commission sent letters Monday to 13 data brokers over concerns they unlawfully disclosed US residents’ sensitive data to foreign adversaries.

The companies, which the agency did not name, were put on watch after the FTC said they were offering “solutions and insights” revealing US residents’ status as armed forces members—a type of protected information under the Protecting Americans’ Data from Foreign Adversaries Act of 2024 (PADFAA), according to a press release.
