Data Backup Provider’s Subpoena Denied in Trade Secrets Case

A data backup and security company lost its bid to subpoena one of its competitors after a Florida federal magistrate judge said it had failed to articulate “any significant need” for the requested information.

Datto Inc. and Datto Europe Ltd.'s subpoenas against ConnectWise LLC are quashed, but they could be revisited after discovery is conducted and Datto’s positions are “more clearly set forth,” Magistrate Judge Thomas G. Wilson wrote in an order filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Attorneys representing Datto didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
