Cyberattack on Suffolk County, NY May Be Costly, Fitch Says

A cyberattack on the government offices of New York’s Suffolk County last month may involve “substantial” costs for the Long Island home of the Hamptons and Fire Island, Fitch Ratings said.

The Sept. 8 hack compromised county computer systems and records, including residents’ personal information, according to a statement by the rating company. While the county is working with multiple cybersecurity firms to restore operations and investigate the crime, the magnitude and costs of the incident have yet to be determined.
