Consumer Group Urges California’s AG to Clarify Sale of Data (1)

The nonprofit Consumer Reports is urging California’s attorney general to clarify ambiguities in the state’s privacy regime for consumers who want to opt out of the sale of their data.

Some companies denied opt-out requests that Consumer Reports submitted on consumers’ behalf due to an issue with how the California Consumer Privacy Act is interpreted, according to a study released Thursday.

The companies said they didn’t sell consumer data and denied the requests, even though their privacy policies referenced sharing data for targeted advertising, Consumer Reports found. The group says the privacy law’s enforcer, the state’s attorney general, should clarify ...
